Another opportunity is here again for those that can not afford to have Visa Card, Master Card or Graph card to have their own card that can be use to purchase or buy things online, so I am to inform you all about the current online transaction that is going on now.

This is a company that provides a better service when you think of online transaction (buy and selling).

There programme is like e-gold, visa card e.g. and what so ever you think other company are doing, this company will do it better.

First let me throw more some topics here.

What is a fraudulent email?

A fraudulent (spoof) email pretends to be from a well-known company in an attempt to get personal information from you. People who send spoof emails hope to use your information — such as credit and debit card numbers or account passwords — to commit identity theft.

You can prevent spoof from affecting you

Spoof or phishing emails and the spoof websites often associated with them are deceptive in appearance. However, they contain content that reveals that they are fake. The most important thing to do to protect yourself is to be able to spot this misleading content:

What to watch out for

1.Generic greetings. Many spoof emails begin with a general greeting, such as: "Dear Liberty Reserve member."

2.A false sense of urgency. Most spoof emails try to deceive you with the threat that your account is in jeopardy if you don’t update it ASAP.

3.Fake links. The text in a link looks valid, but then sends you to a spoof address. Always check where a link is going before you click. Move your mouse over it and look at the URL in your browser or email status bar. If the link looks suspicious, do not click on it, and be aware that a fake link may even have the text "LibertyReserve" in it. If you are not sure about an email, forward the suspicious email to Liberty Reserve support for analysis.

This company is what I use to do most of my online business including folex trade.

So I recommended you all to go to this http://www.libertyreserve.com/?ref=U123456 and register for your own account before the free offer will close.

Questions Liberty Reserve will never ask you in an email

To help you better identify fake emails, we follow strict rules. We will never ask for the following personal information in emails:

·Credit and debit card numbers;

·Bank account numbers;

·Driver’s License numbers;

·Email addresses;

·Passwords;

·Your full name.

Certainly you can abuse email marketing and have it actually hurt you. In this article let's talk about how to use email marketing and create any excellent opportunity for you to make money doing it.

We are going to base our business opportunity around having an auto responder, doing affiliate marketing, and purchasing co-registration leads. These three things combined together can help you make money on the Internet for many years to come if you stick with it.

1. An auto responder is an automatic way to send email. A quality auto responder is where you will store names and email addresses for future follow up. The only people that you will put into this auto responder are prospects who agree to receive email from you.

2. Affiliate marketing is where you get paid to sell other people's products. This is something you're going to want to study up on, but you can find affiliate products to sell in virtually every niche online today.

The nice thing about affiliate marketing is the affiliate merchant gives you the products and marketing material to help you sell their products.

3. Purchasing co-registration leads is a fast way to build a mailing list and get names and e mail addresses into your auto responder. It is also very hands off way to build your list because you pay someone else to do it for you.

If you will commit to purchasing co-registration leads every month, until you have a list that is profitable and the size that you want, you cannot fail with this strategy.

One thing we do need to mention is that your auto responders should be filled up with prewritten messages about the products that you are trying to sell. There is an art to how you do this!

Initially you are more in the relationship building game as opposed to the sales gain. As you begin to warm your prospects up you will develop credibility with them.

Successful Internet marketers are able to translate that credibility into sales and more profit for their business. This really is the best way to use email marketing as a moneymaking business.

Join affiliate programs and find products to sell, get your autoresponder set up with prewritten messages, and purchase co-registration leads to follow up with. By doing this on a consistent basis you can create a long-term money making business opportunity out of email marketing.

I’m not talking about Internet real estate, where you buy up good names and sell them on for a profit. If you didn’t get positioned in that market early on, you can forget about it. The bottom’s fallen out of the market and the best domains are long gone.

I’m talking about expiring domains.
Thousands of webmasters invest time, effort and money to promote their site and build up traffic. Many of them then lose interest and move on, leaving their site active. That means that although they still own the domain, they’re not actively promoting it. But they don’t need to. All the automatic marketing systems they’ve put in place are still bringing in traffic. The site runs itself.
- 44 -
Now, at some point the ownership of those domains is going to expire. If you snap up those domains once they come back onto the market, you’ve got a pre-built stream of customers. You can either rebuild the site, or redirect the traffic to your domain.

It’s that easy. In fact, websites like DeletedDomains.com actually do all the legwork and let you reap all the rewards.
Do be careful when using other sites though. There are some swindlers out there that will sell you subscriptions, provide you with outdated lists, take your money and keep the good domains for themselves. It happens, and there’s little point in taking a risk with other companies when DeletedDomains.com does such a great job.

The Host
Let’s start where the Internet starts: with a host. A host is a server that provides a home for your website on the World Wide Web.
Just as your computer contains all your files, so a host contains all the files needed to run your website. Why can’t you just keep all those files on your own computer? Because that would mean visitors would have to connect directly to your computer to see your website and that’s not a good idea. It wouldn’t be secure and it would make your machine run like a tired snail. With a host, you can simply upload everything you need to the server and your users can then connect there to see your site. It lets the site run faster and allows it to have all the security and extras it needs.

Selecting a host is the first important step towards building your Internet business.

Hosting services and companies vary from totally free, shared servers to large-scale dedicated machines. You’ll have to decide which is right for you and your business.
Your choice of server will depend on how much money you have available at the beginning and how much you plan to grow in the future. In my opinion, for commercial sites, free hosting is a waste of time. Your users are going to get blasted with annoying pop-ups every time they surf to your page, it’s going to be impossible to get a decent position in a search engine, and you don’t even get a real business URL. No one’s going to remember your web address if they have to type: FreeWebsiteHosting.com/my_site. However, it is possible to choose a cheaper host at the beginning and move up as your business begins to bring in money.

NOTE: One of the most important factors in choosing a website host is the customer service you receive once you’ve signed up.
There are many technical issues that can come up once you have your own website, and if you don’t have a truly dedicated hosting company to support you and help you resolve these issues when necessary, you could, quite simply, lose your business. Trust me, I’ve seen many thriving online businesses fall apart because they chose the wrong hosting company. When hosting is cheap, there is a reason for it.
With website hosting, you get exactly what you pay for and you should never compromise when it comes to who to host your website with.

Testing and Performance
You have designed a very usable website, you have hosted it using a very reliable web hosting company, and you have integrated a safe and trusted payment processing system with your website.
However, all these can prove to be useless until you know your site is actually working and accessible. If you want to create an accessible website, you will need to test, test and test again.
A recent Forrester Research report reported that failure to ensure website quality will cost the average small or mid-size company thousands of dollars in wasted expenditures on website redesigns, forfeited revenue, and lost customers. Testing a website is a long and tedious task, but it's perhaps the most important task of all. There are numerous stages to testing, all of which are very important. Ranging from browser testing to content testing, none should be excluded.

Visual Acceptance Testing
Visual Acceptance Testing is the first port-of-call for all webmasters. This type of testing generally ensures that the site looks as it is intended to. This includes checking the graphic integration, and simply confirming that the site looks good. In this stage you should assess every page carefully to ensure that each looks the same. The site should be tested under different screen resolutions and color depths.

Functionality Testing
Functionality testing is perhaps the most vital area of testing, and one which should never be missed. Functionality testing involves an assessment of every aspect of the site where scripting or code is involved, from searching for dead links, to testing forms and scripts.
You should also test your payment processing system completely and thoroughly. After all, you wouldn’t want a potential customer to get stuck at the last stage and eventually leave the site just because there is something wrong with payment processing.
- 48 -
Content Proofing
This stage of testing removes any errors in your content, and ensures that your site has a professional appearance. In this phase, you should reread each page on your site, and check for spelling and grammatical errors.
System and Browser Compatibility Testing
This test phase is completed in order to ensure that your website renders correctly on a user's screen. To begin with, you should test several pages from your site on different browsers such as Internet Explorer 4, 5, 6, Netscape 4 and 6, and Opera. This can be extremely important - if your site does not work properly with the Netscape browser, Netscape users will end up annoyed, and they'll go elsewhere.

Monitoring and Tracking
Understanding what your visitors do on your site is crucial information, not to mention interesting. If a large majority of your visitors who proceed to purchase a product leave the site when they get to a specific page in the order process, you need to know about it.
It could be that the page in question is confusing or hard to use. Fixing it could increase your sales exponentially. In fact, it is not uncommon for small website changes in headlines and order processes to result in a 200%-300% increase in sales. This is just an example; there are many reasons why you want a detailed analysis of your site visitors.
Most website hosting services offer a stats package that you can study. If you're not sure where this is, call up your hosting service and ask them. Statistics are a vital part of tracking your marketing progress. If you don't have access to website statistics get a package that can help you in this area. Do not get a counter that just shows how many visitors you've had. You'll be missing out on vital information that can help strengthen weaknesses in your site.
A good website hosting service would offer traffic logs that provide an invaluable insight into the traffic being referred to a web site from various sources such as search engines, directories and other links.
Unfortunately, traffic tracking provided by web hosting services is often in the form of raw traffic log files or other hard-to-comprehend, cryptic formats. These log files are basically text files that describe actions on the site. It is literally impossible to use the raw log files to understand what your visitors are doing. If you do not have the patience to go through these huge traffic logs, opting for a traffic logging package would be a good idea.
- 50 -
Basically two options are available to you and these are: using a log analysis package or subscribing to a remotely hosted traffic logging service. A remotely hosted traffic logging service may be easy to use and is generally the cheaper option of the two. In fact, you can get a powerful free tracking tool at: StatCounter.com. Other reliable tracking programs include WebTrends.com and HitsLink.com.
These services do not use your log files. Typically a small section of code is placed on any page you want to track. When the page is viewed, information is stored on the remote server and available in real time to view in charts and tables form.
A good traffic logging service provides detailed statistics pertaining to the following:
􀀻 How many people visit your site?
􀀻 Where are they from?
􀀻 How are visitors finding your site?
􀀻 What traffic is coming from search engines, links from other sites, and other sources?
􀀻 What keyword search phrases are they using to find your site?1 -
􀀻 What pages are frequented the most - what information are visitors most interested in?
􀀻 How do visitors navigate within your web site?
Knowing the answers to these and other fundamental questions is essential for making informed decisions that maximize the return on investment (ROI) of your website investment.
The most important aspect of tracking visitors to your website is analyzing all the statistics you get from your tracking software. The three main statistics that will show your overall progress are hits, visitors and page views. Hits are tracked when any picture or page loads from your server on to a visitor’s browser. Hits, however, can be very misleading. It is quite an irrelevant statistic for your website.
The statistic that is probably the most important for a website is Page Views/Visitors. This gives you a good indication of two things.
First, how many people are coming to your site, and secondly how long are they staying on your site. If you have 250 visitors and 300 page views you can figure that most visitors view one page on your site and then leave. Generally, if you're not getting 2 page views per visitor then you should consider upgrading your site's content so your visitors will stay around longer.
- 52 -
If you see the number of visitors you have increasing as well as the number of page views per visitor increasing then keep up the good work! Always look for this stat as an overall barometer of how your site design is going and if you’re marketing campaigns are taking hold.
Also, a good stat to look for is unique visitors. Once a person visits your site they will not be added to the unique visitor’s category if they visit again. This is a good way to track new visitors to your website.
Page views are a good indication of how "sticky" your website is.
A good statistic to keep is Page Views divided by the number of
Visitors you have. This statistic will give you a good idea if your content is interesting and if your visitors are staying on your site for a long time and surfing.
Some people are intimidated by web traffic statistics (mostly because of the sheer volume of data available), but they shouldn't be.
While there are many highly specialized statistics that can be used for more in-depth web traffic analysis, the above areas alone can provide invaluable information on your visitors and your website performance.
Remember, this data is available for a reason. It's up to you to use it.

Tracking Your Sales
Like any business, it is absolutely vital to track and maintain your sales records. You should have a clear understanding of your income and expenditures.
There are many ways to keep track of your sales. Using orthodox methods such as keeping a paper journal is time consuming. Simple spreadsheet programs as well as basic accounting software are available at minimum or no cost. However, it is advisable to install advanced accounting software such as QuickBooks, Quicken, or Microsoft Money to keep track of your accounting.
Such advanced programs save you time by sorting your register transactions by date, transaction amount, document number (e.g. check number), and order entered, or cleared status. The tracking feature included in such software tracks, by user, changes made to each transaction. Daily, weekly, monthly as well as yearly sales reports can be generated with a few clicks. These reports help you analyze the sales of each and every product. Logs and reports can be generated to keep track of all your customers.

NOTE: Affiliate marketing solves many of the aforementioned tracking problems for you automatically. When you become an affiliate and resell other company’s products for a profit, the company you are affiliated with keeps track of your traffic and sales automatically and presents all this information to you in easy to read charts and graphs.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7052560937031977634-3040054588458849038?l=internetmoneystuff.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Making Your Website Attractive, Interesting, Engaging

1.1 Making Your Website Attractive, Interesting, Engaging
and Interactive
To succeed at your online business (whether you are selling your own product/service or are selling for other merchants as an affiliate), you need a website created just for that - a simple, focused site. Your website should be easy to build, maintenance-free, low cost, credible and a powerful traffic-builder and customer-converter. Having the right tool and the right product alone won’t ensure the success of your website. There are many factors to be considered while designing a site. Unfortunately, most of these are often ignored by Internet business owners.

Build It for Speed - It's a fact of modern life - people are in a hurry. This means that you have between 10 and 30 seconds to capture your potential customer's attention. To minimize your load time, keep graphics small. Compress them where possible. Use flashy technology (JavaScript, Flash, Streaming Audio/Video, animation) sparingly and only if it is important to your presentation.

Target your Market - Know who your market is and make certain that your site caters to their needs. It is critical that your site reflect the values of your potential customers. Is your market mostly business professionals? If so, the site must be clean and professional. Is your product aimed mostly a teenagers and young adults? Then your site could be more informal and relaxed. The key here is to know your market and build the site to their preferences.

Focus the Site - Make certain your website is focused on a primary goal: selling your product or service. A site offering many unrelated products is not necessarily unfocused, but this is often the case. If your business does offer many products, dedicate a unique page for each instead of trying to sell them all from one page.

Credibility Is Crucial - The most professionally designed website won't sell if your customers don't believe in you. A clear privacy statement is one way to build your credibility. Provide a prominent link to your privacy statement from every page on the site as well as from any location that you are asking your visitors for personal information. Provide legitimate contact information online.

Navigation should be simple - Make site navigation easy and intuitive. Simple and smooth navigation adds to the convenience of the visitors. Add powerful search and catalog features. Visitors usually don’t have the patience to navigate through the whole website to find what they are looking for.

Consistency is the key - Make sure the site is consistent in look, feel and design. Nothing is more jarring and disturbing to a customer than feeling as if they have just gone to another site. Keep colors and themes constant throughout your website.

Make your website interactive and personalized – Add feedback forms as well as email forms that allow your prospective customers to ask you any questions they might have pertaining to a product. Personalization of your website is another key element that can build your visitor’s trust and increase your sales. Personalization technology provides you the analytic tools to facilitate cross-selling and up-selling when the customer is buying online. It would give you an idea of what products to cross-sell and up-sell. For example, when a person buys a CD player, a disc cleaner can also be offered.

Content is King - Good content sells a product. Ask yourself the following questions. Does your copy convey the message you wish to get across to your visitors? Is it compelling? Does it lead your visitor through the sales process? Have others review, critique and edit your copy to insure it is delivering the intended message. Always double check your spelling and grammar.

1.2 Navigation
The aim of a website's navigation is simply to allow users to get to the content they require. For sites that have a large number of sections and web pages (and information sites can be one of these) the navigation plan has to be properly researched and designed. You have to consider different types of visitors and simulate the most common steps they would take to find what they want on your site, and the navigation plan has to optimize this movement. For example, the steps required from searching a catalog of items, selecting from the catalog, adding them to a shopping cart, proceeding to check out, to entering the payment particulars is a specific sequence that should be facilitated by the navigation system. If the sequence is haphazard, it could lead to frustration or the user may miss an important step and you would have an aborted sale.
To find their way about, users need to know two things:
- Where they are now
- How to go elsewhere
Navigation does not exist in isolation; good site organization is a prerequisite for a coherent navigation system.
Objectives of a Navigation System
Navigation can be broken into two primary types: Location Indicators and Navigation Controls.
Location Indicators
Location indicators let users know where they are in the site at the moment. You need to keep in mind that users coming from outside your site can enter at any page, not necessarily on a main page. They need to be able to orientate themselves quickly.
Equally, it is important that users navigating around your site have a clear idea of where they are both in absolute terms and in relation to other content. Location information should appear on every page of the site, in the same place and in the same style. Location indicators should tell the user precisely where they are and this should be clear even to a user who has entered the site at an internal page. The location indicator should be identifiable for what it is and make sense in the context of other navigation.
In simple sites a page banner - text or graphic - naming the page will be sufficient. For this to work the page name should also appear in the main navigation so that it is relevant within the overall structure of the site.
Color can be used. For example a different color background, contrast color or sidebar in each part of the site. To be really effective the color change should be reflected in the navigation. Using “breadcrumbs” on every page is a good idea. Breadcrumbs show you a series of hierarchical links that you have used to go from page to page within a section. Using breadcrumbs is like leaving a trail of the path you have followed. The breadcrumbs appear at the top of the content section, just below the main navigation template. Each element in the breadcrumb is a link to that section or subsection. This helps in avoiding a series of back buttons allowing the user to directly go back to the main section page or another sub section. More importantly, it always shows the context of the page that is being viewed and how it belongs to a section or sub-section.

Navigation Controls
Navigation controls are the main navigation links; they allow users to move around the site. Whether they comprise images or text they should be predictably located in the same place, and with the same appearance, on each page.
These have several purposes
􀀻 To allow users to move about within the site
􀀻 To tell users what information is available at the link
􀀻 To work with location indicators to orientate users
A good navigation control:
􀀻 Is clear: it looks like navigation
- 29 -
􀀻 Leads to obvious content - users have a good idea what
they will find if they click
􀀻 Is consistent with other navigation controls
􀀻 Is predictable in its style and location on the page

There is no mystery to usability. It simply involves creating a site, which is accessible to the majority of people, is easy to use and get around and delivers on its promises. You can have a site that meets the most important standards of usability by planning it well and always keeping the end user in mind. Remember that websites should not be designed for their owners - they should be designed for their users.
Problems with usability could be said to stem from just two sources: the site itself and the user. In fact, the site is always at fault if a visitor (however experienced or inexperienced) has problems navigating, getting information or understanding the site. While websites have become far more complex, web users have become less experienced because more and more new people go online every day. It is a mistake to think that the majority of users will be web or even computer savvy and will understand subtle clues about content. Many won’t, so make your site as easy to use as possible.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7052560937031977634-3560982041376513482?l=internetmoneystuff.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Interesting ways of Starting Your Online Business

Launching an online business can seem either simple or harrowing, depending on your perception of the Internet. For many, the task at hand will come naturally because they’re comfortable maneuvering the ‘Net with ease. For others, it’s an entirely alien idea requiring heavy guidance.
Everyone who has ever sought out legitimate business opportunities online has probably scoured the Internet for sites that offer both direction and devices to make their journey easier.

Most people are looking for a place where Internet Marketers can make a single stop to gather and implement all of the information they need to carry them from A to Z and a turnkey marketing system that supplies everything they need for success.
There are ten basic steps to initiating and cultivating your dream of starting of your very own Internet-based business. The steps begin the moment you first conceptualize your dream and they culminate with continued revenue from your customers.

1. Motivation and Goal Setting
If you’re reading this book, then you have already instilled some of the motivation needed to be a successful online entrepreneur. But are you ready to invest the time and money needed to realize your vision?
Before you ever start the first formal step of launching your cyber business, you have to have the right mindset and a list of goals that you plan to accomplish one step at a time.
First, you need to gather the support of those who will be closely involved with you in your endeavor. It may be a work partner or your spouse and children if you’re working solo from home.
Even if you’re interested in signing up with an established affiliate program, you should still set and try to maintain your own personal goals. While some seasoned marketers have long-term success, those who sustain their victories in the marketplace know that they have to put in equal effort to building a successful affiliate network.
Sit down with a list of things you hope to accomplish with this business and be as specific as possible. It may help convince others (and even yourself) if you map out a simple business plan to show them how your idea will come to life.
You can see a small business plan outline at www.sba.gov.
If you run into opposition, or self-doubts, then you may want to take some time to thoroughly review your business plan and try to solve any areas of concern before you begin investing too much time or money into your operation.
If you’re considering joining an affiliate program, look at it carefully to determine what its drawbacks are, if any. Then, if you still have concerns, contact the administrator or a sponsor of the program and open a dialogue so that you can find out for yourself if these problems really exist, and if so, how they are solved.
Along with the plan itself, you should have several stages of goals that you hope to reach and the timeline to accompany them. Too many people sit down one day and decide to start a business with no direction to go. These people wind up off the path very quickly, and all the time and funds they devoted to their business goes down the drain.
Don’t bite off more than you can chew with your goals. Start small and remember that goals are to be viewed as a “living list,” and can be altered at any time depending on the success rate of your business.
You might want to set monetary goals – such as hoping to make $2,000 per month within the first three months. Remember that most new businesses don’t even see a profit until after the first year, so don’t despair if yours is slow to grow.
On the Internet, your growth rate will be much quicker because your audience is global, not limited to your physical location. Another bonus with online selling is that many products are informational, and don’t require the standard upfront investment that other companies do.
When you find a business opportunity that piques your interest, you need to make sure that there is a system in place that offers plenty of member support and training to get your own enterprise underway.
For example, Empowerism is not only a site that houses one of the largest learning environments on the ‘Net, but it’s also a community where members can interact with one another and get answers on issues that are important to them.
Look for a company that doesn’t stop at just putting the facts and figures out there. You want one that takes an active interest in your success, offers a turnkey marketing system, and wants to make sure that your growth spurs more growth within the industry, which is exactly what a company called Empowerism has accomplished since 1998.

2. Time Management Control
If you’re working from home or doing this business as a second career until it firmly gets on its feet, then you’ll have to set and meet your schedule in order to carefully control your online enterprise.
You don’t want to fall at one end of the spectrum – investing too much or too little time into your business. Instead, you want a healthy balance where you’ve spent enough time working toward your goals and plenty of time to spend enjoying family time or recreational life in general.
“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” You’ve heard the saying.
It rings true for many whose lives are consumed by their business. Don’t let this happen to you! If you fall into the trap of working yourself to death, your business will suffer in the end because you’ll become too frustrated to think clearly and make sound business decisions.
If your online business is your only job, then you can afford to spend 8-10 hours a day working toward its success. But if you’re working at home, those 8-
10 hours a day might be marred by constant interruptions and personal pauses that so easily take precedence over your work life.
If you have a family at home, remind them that you’re going to be putting in formal work hours and that even though you might be available to temporarily stop and help them when they need it, they must respect your efforts to build your business.
Your time is important! You know the saying, “Time is Money” and you will find that to be especially true online where you can spend hour after hour on repetitive tasks that deliver marginal results. Don’t fall into the trap of doing the same thing over and over again without results. Look for a true “turnkey system” that finds, sorts, and sells to your prospects, while you’re spending time doing things that contribute to the long haul, like building relationships with your customers.
How many affiliate programs on the ‘Net have you found who promise a turnkey investment? Just set it up and it runs itself. When it comes down to it, not many make the grade – then you eventually end up unwilling to spend the necessary time – and failure closes in. Empowerism knows the difference between hype and truth, and makes promises that are kept by providing actual step-by-step instructions and a turnkey system that will help you make the most of your time.

3. Product Conception
Many people go through life wishing they could sell something and become instant millionaires. It rarely works this way, but the possibility still tugs at us and we’re always looking for the “magic solution” to our financial stresses.
In order to develop a good product line, you have to look at the marketplace. What are consumers buying? What’s being heavily advertised?
You know it takes money to market your products, so the successful companies will be advertising greatly because they can afford to.
Is there a need that’s not being met? Many success stories come out of regular consumers who couldn’t find a particular product to solve their own problems, so they invented one themselves to help others!
Many thriving online businesses do nothing but sell information on the
‘Net. Information is the hottest commodity, and almost anyone can do it with very little upfront investment of money.
Think about your own personal experiences. What skills do you have that cause people come to you for help? Are you a wiz at writing? Do you have a knack for investing or real estate solutions?
You can write an eBook to sell on the ‘Net and rake in a lot of money – just for sharing your knowledge with others! Why are eBooks so popular? For several reasons, including the fact that they can be purchased and read in seconds from the comfort of your own home.
No bookstores. No traffic. No-hassle returns on most sites. Plus, eBooks usually come with a package deal, so customers get bonus materials just for ordering. This can be an extra eBook, a teaser eBook (a shorter version of the same book, highlighting a few excerpts), or a membership to a free Ezine.
If you aren’t confident in your writing skills, but have an idea you’d like to see in print, consider hiring a professional to do it for you. Writing consultants can research and write about topics quickly and gear them toward consumers for about $20 per page.
Products that are already created can be sold in affiliate programs. The advantages of marketing someone else’s products or services are many, including time savings, low monetary investment (and risk), and less work. If that appeals to you, at least as a stepping stone to “bigger and better,” then the perfect starting place is Empowerism.

4. Site Structure
The structure of your website can mean the difference between a stalled business and a flourishing one. If your website isn’t built for the consumer, then the consumer will steer clear.
Have you ever ventured into a store and found it messy or crowded and hard to maneuver? Did you ever go back to that place? Probably not. The same thing goes for your online business.
Some websites are not built for the average customer. They use large graphics that take hours for a 56K modem to download, or their links don’t work.
If you don’t know how to build a website yourself, then hire a professional who knows how to do it for you.
Your site needs to be user-friendly so that customers keep coming back – not only for their first purchase, but also for follow-up sales once they’ve devoured your initial product.
Some basic tips for building a better website include using professional colors and fonts. You don’t want a rainbow site with happy faces and flowery lettering trying to sell your serious eBook on Investing for Seniors.
You also want to make sure you have a separate domain for your business.
You can register your very own dot com at GoDaddy.com for only $8.95 per year, and the investment is well worth it for the professionalism it gives your business.
Once the designer drafts your site and your content is in place, ask a few friends or family members to make a test run through it and tell you if they notice any areas where the user would run into problems, like dead links or layout trouble.
Sometimes, something as simple as the browser the customer is using will distort the website and make it appear as if an amateur has launched an online business. Any reputable designer knows how to appeal to the masses, so you shouldn’t run into any trouble if you check references and hire someone who’s been in the business for at least 5 years.
If you’re not quite ready to hire a website designer, there are companies that offer low-cost, ready-made templates that you can customize. Empowerism will give you 35 templates and teach you what to do with them. You will have a wide variety of options so that your enterprise is created with a personal slant – designed however you choose. These types of tools reduce the usual worries that plague other first time cyberpreneurs. Turnkey!

5. Constructive Content
Content can make a big difference if you fail to urge the audience to take action on your site. You have to create words that provoke the reader to continue reading until they are convinced to buy your product or sign up for something on your site.
Some websites run on for pages, causing the reader to scroll forever.
Others use a mere paragraph or two to make their point and hope for the best results. What length you require depends on the product you’re selling and how much convincing needs to be done to make the sale.
Many websites are sheer sales propaganda, and it often works! Your sales strategy should reflect the customer and how they approach buying on the Internet. Many people like and expect to see testimonials sprinkled throughout your home page, for instance.
Whenever you work on your content, make sure that you answer the 5
W’s: Who (who the product is for and who you are as well); What (what the product is exactly, along with any other bonus materials included); When (when the offer expires – an often crucial element in making the sale tonight as opposed to never); Where (where they can reach you in case they have any questions or need assistance); and Why (why they need your product above any others selling on the ‘Net).
You might want to write your online sales content like a personal letter, complete with an image of your signature at the bottom of the page. Don’t forget your Postscripts (P.S.) – you can have up to five Postscripts where you sum up the important facts and urge the client to purchase now or miss out on the deal altogether.
You content will play a key factor in your search engine placement, so you will need to learn how to “write for the search engines” and incorporate that whenever possible. If that’s something you’re not familiar with, Empowerism offers a full training module on keyword and keyphrase integration for search engine optimization.
Content isn’t confined just to your website! Email marketing is a vital aspect of Internet Marketing, and the content of your communications to your prospects and customers must be professional, with a good blend of relationshipbuilding, soft-sell, and hard-sell copy. This is also something that Empowerism excels at, in fact you can pick up a complimentary Email Marketing Course on their website, which addresses email content, among other critical topics. The last thing you want to do is offend a prospect or appear amateurish in your communications!

6. Search Engine Support
Without aiming for a decent search engine ranking, you might have difficulty in achieving the kind of sales results you’re after. In addition to content, addressed in the previous section, there are several tools you can use to help you increase your search engine placement.
While many engines have their own criteria for developing their unique ranking system, most rely on a combination of keywords, relevancy, and even link reciprocation. In order to move into the top ten, most coveted positions, you have to know how to play their game.
First, sit down and brainstorm the keywords most used to describe your product. Google has a keyword tool that helps you determine the most widely used search terms for your business. You can find it at: https://adwords.google.com/select/main?cmd=KeywordSandbox.
For example, if you enter “investing,” the tool will return the following terms to you: Real estate investing, online investing, socially responsible investing, value investing, stock market investing, stock investing, investing online, gold investing, drip investing, & investing money – and these are only the top 10 out of 50+ terms it returns.
How do you use these search terms? You use them both behind the scenes and on center stage. Your web developer will want to include many of them in your META tags, which allows search engine spiders to classify your site more easily.
You’ll also want to use them in your keyword content when crafting the home page of your website. When the spider crawls onto your site, it scans the keywords to make sure the site is really relevant to that particular subject matter, and not just a scam to get traffic in the door.
You will need to continue recreating your search engine strategy, since many engines change their formula to keep everyone on their toes. Google and others, for instance, now factor into the ranking formula the number of other sites who have a link to your site. This is known as link reciprocation.
Don’t have a web developer? It’s easy to learn this from Empowerism.
Not only will you learn about issues such as link reciprocation, but you’ll see how to generate targeted traffic to your website using search engines and free tools reserved especially for subscribers. Or you can always use their turnkey system and never have to worry about anything related to search engines again!

7. Advertising Issues
Advertising will be the lifeblood of your business, so this is where the majority of your time, money, and effort will be spent. Your goal is to build a database (list) of prospects and customers you can sell to time and time again.
In the ever-changing (and challenging) world of online advertising, there are two primary categories: Free and Paid. The basic rule of thumb is that if you have much more time than money, free advertising may be your most logical choice. However, if you have even just a little room in your budget for advertising, Paid advertising, combined with effective free methods, will save you time and is the most direct route to success.
The entire goal of your advertising efforts should be to drive targeted traffic to your website, where visitors are encouraged to add their name and email ddress to your database. Plain and simple. Database Marketing 101.
Free online advertising methods include (but are not limited to) posting to free safe lists, engaging in message board discussions and including your tagline on each post, posting to free classified ad sites, using traffic generators
(surfing/clicking for credits), submitting your website to search engines, banner exchanges, reciprocal linking with similar sites, submitting free ezine ads, writing articles and including your byline at the end, and writing a press release about the launch of your site or a new product and submitting to online news media.
These methods can be tedious and frustrating, but when you’re starting off, with no extra funds, if you can choose two and stick with them religiously, you will most likely generate enough profit to form a Paid advertising plan.
Empowerism can help you get started with any of these, as well as teach you how-to test and track your results, which is vitally important to your sanity!
Paid advertising methods are virtually endless. Some of the most popular include renting opt-in lists, buying opt-in leads, placing ads in reputable ezines, using pay-per-click search engines, buying banner ad space, and buying targeted traffic. When using a completely turnkey system like the one Empowerism supplies, your opt-in leads, delivery method, and content are automatically included, leaving you free to try other advertising venues to complement these efforts.
Just because you have an online business, that doesn’t mean all of your advertising has to be on the Internet. However, online advertising is usually less costly than offline avenues. You don’t have to pay for pricey prime time placement, but you do have to spend more time figuring out where your prospects are so that your dollars are not wasted in your efforts.

8. Customer Service
Everyone knows that keeping a customer is ten times harder than getting one initially. We can all recall numerous times when we’ve purchased something and vowed never to return.
You don’t want to be labeled one of those businesses that don’t seem to value its customers. Word on the Internet spreads rapidly. If you burn one customer, he or she might post that experience on an online message board or mention it in an email discussion list, and no one else will want to do business with you, either.
What does customer service mean? Does it mean the customer is always right? If you want it to! But more often than not, it means that you are willing to listen to a customer’s complaints and work toward a mutual resolution.
Sometimes the only resolution that will work means a full money-back guarantee. Yes, even if you know the consumer is only doing this to scam you out of your money.
But other times, the customer is lodging a legitimate complaint, and this can be very helpful to you when it comes to satisfying the needs of other customers. Say a customer emails you with a request for a refund because many of the links in your eBook were dead links (they no longer worked).
First of all, you need to thank this customer profusely because he’s just done you a big favor. He’s saved you money. How? Because you can instantly refund his money, fix the dead links, and avoid dozens of other returns.
Then you should happily refund the money for this sale and promise him that you’ll be repairing the problem and ensuring it never happens again. As result, you might have salvaged his business for your release of the next edition of your informational eBook.
No matter what the situation, always be courteous and friendly when dealing with a customer – even those who are furious with you for no good reason (that you can see). Remain calm and gently take care of the problem.
The biggest complaint online consumers have in working with customer service departments is their slow reply. To combat this problem, make sure you stay on top of customer contact so that you can resolve any issues before they grow into larger ones.
By aligning yourself with a company with an unprecedented reputation for integrity and fast, friendly service, you will garner the experience to serve your clients with the respect they expect.

9. Recurrent Marketing Efforts
Don’t think that once you launch a single ad campaign, your efforts are finished. Marketing your products is a never-ending task that has to be factored into the continued growth of your business. Even after you’ve made the sale, the show must go on – your goal is to keep these customers for life, if not longer!
Whenever you create a product to sell on the Internet, you must have a way to capture and store the contact information of your customer – preferably through email – and let them know they will hear from you from time to time. So long as you provide a way for them to opt out of receiving your emails, this is standard procedure.
When someone becomes your customer, the next time he hears from you will be right after his first purchase – thanking him for becoming a valued customer. From that point on, you can occasionally contact him to alert him to other special offers, upgrades, or complementary products that are available to him at a special discount because he’s an existing customer.
Your new best friends will be an auto-responder and your mailing list software. Auto-responders usually come with a mass mailing function, which is very convenient. With auto-responders, the “after-the-sale” marketing is done for you automatically – contacting the customer periodically with various “drive ‘em back” messages. You can either write these messages or hire a professional.
Your mailing list software (or the mass mail feature of your auto responder) allows you to contact your customers “on the fly” with up-to-the minute information that would not typically be loaded into an auto-responder.
This can be in the form of special reports or a newsletter you send out regularly.
Keep your eye on the media – newspapers, television, even radio – and send your customers a message whenever you find information that could benefit their lives in some way, relevant to their relationship with you. These reports can be drafted in a matter of hours, and can be anywhere from one to five pages long.
For example, if you sell an eBook on lowering telecommunications costs, and you see a story about it on the 5 o’clock news, whip up a short report and send it to your customers. They will appreciate knowing you’re on top of the situation and looking out for their best interests. At the same time, you’ll be positioning yourself as an expert in your field.
Out of all the tools you’ll want to use, one clever tool Empowerism provides its members is the ability to plug your name and URL into existing material that you can give away to future prospects and customers. The data is already there – you just substitute your contact information, and you’ve instantly produced a quality product.

10. Necessity of Reinvention
From time to time, once your business becomes an established entity, you’ll want to reinvent your methods or your products. If your approach in selling begins to weaken, and you notice a decline in sales, try something new before you change your entire product line.
It may be that your audience is now gathering somewhere else online and you have to find them so that you can begin your new marketing campaign. It could be that your marketing efforts themselves need a boost or a facelift!
If so, you can find a professional to help you create an ad campaign –banners, killer content, auto-responders, and more. What if all of those efforts still don’t reap any rewards? Then it’s time to reassess your products.
Is what you’re trying to sell outdated? Has technology taken over and demanded a newer approach to solving a problem than what you’re touting as the” next big thing?” Is your product or service overpriced when compared to the competition? Stay abreast of current events in your industry and begin developing a strong affinity to continuing education.
Are you simply tired of selling eBooks based on real estate options and want to tackle a fresh subject matter? You can do it, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw away your current enterprise. In fact, if you’ve built a formidable reputation on the ‘Net as an honest businessperson who provides excellent information to his or her customers, that will aid you in any endeavors you pursue online!
Finding your groove in the online community will eventually come naturally as your products and selling mechanisms begin to harmonize with your customers’ needs. To keep your business fluid (changing with the times) and growing, your challenge is to stay organized, focused, and in tune with hot topics emerging on the Internet.
Keep in tune? How? The best way is by having conversations with people who are doing the same thing you are! Network with fellow entrepreneurs, customers, service providers, gurus – ask questions, solicit opinions, be a sounding board, don’t stop learning. You never know what contacts you might make or information you’ll learn that could be the key to taking your business to the next level. Even the shyest among us can send an email to another business owner to strike up a conversation! No phone required!
This eBook has outlined and described the basics of successful online entrepreneurship. Now it’s up to you to take the next step. No matter who you’re, your level of formal education, or your financial situation – armed with the tools available to you, you can be as successful as you are committed to being.

Although it may seem like a daunting task at first, it can be made less so by careful preparation. When applying for a business loan, you must prepare a written loan proposal. Make your best presentation in the initial business loan proposal and application; you may not get a second opportunity.

Always begin your proposal with a covering letter. Clearly and briefly explain who you are, your business background, nature of your business, the amount and purpose of your loan request, your requested terms of repayment, how the funds will benefit your business, and how you will repay the business loan. Keep this cover page simple and direct.

When writing your proposal, dont assume the reader is familiar with your industry or your individual business. Always include industry-specific details so your reader can understand how your particular business is run and what industry trends affect it.

Provide a written description of your business, including the following information:

Type of organization, Date of information, Location, Product or service, Brief history, Proposed Future Operation, Competition, customers, Suppliers

Management Experience: Resumes of each owner and key management members.

Loan Repayment: Provide a brief written statement indicating how the loan will be repaid, including repayment sources and time requirements. Cash-flow schedules, budgets, and other appropriate information should support this statement.

Existing Business: Provide financial statements for at least the last three years, plus a current dated statement (no older than 90 days) including balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and a reconciliation of net worth. Aging of accounts payable and accounts receivables should be included.

Proposed Business: Provide a pro-forma balance sheet reflecting sources and uses of both equity and borrowed funds.

Projections: Provide a projection of future operations for at least one year or until positive cash flow can be shown. Include earnings, expenses, and reasoning for these estimates. The projections should be in profit & loss format. Explain assumptions used if different from trend or industry standards and support your projected figures with clear, documented explanations.

Collateral: Provide a list assets to be held as collateral. Few financial institutions will provide non-collateral based business loans. All business loans should have at least two identifiable sources of repayment. The first source is ordinarily cash flow generated from profitable operations of the business. The second source is usually collateral pledged to secure the business loan.

Depending on your particular circumstance you may need to provide one or more of the following documents:

Lease, Franchise Agreement, Purchase Agreement, Letters of Intent, Articles of Incorporation, Plans, Copies of Licenses, Letters of Reference, Contracts or Partnership Agreement.

1: Verify your current loan standing
Your current student loans must be in good standing and not in default status. If they are, you’ll need to make the payments required to get them paid up to date before consolidating student loans.

Common questions and concerns:
Q. My loan is in forbearance or deferred; is this considered being “in good standing?”
A. Yes, as long as you have not defaulted on your loans, you can consolidate with ScholarPoint.

Step 2: Gather required information
You’ll need the contact information of 2 friends or family members and the names and addresses of your current loan companies. To save yourself a step, ScholarPoint can instantly access all of the necessary information about your current lenders from the National Student Loan Database system during the application process with your permission.

Common questions and concerns:
Q. Will those I list as references be responsible for paying my loan if I default?
A. No, your references are not cosigners. Like any lending institution, we collect reference information just in case we can’t reach you by mail or phone once you have a loan with ScholarPoint.

Step 3: Apply online
It’s important to note that just because you submit an application with ScholarPoint to consolidate student loans; this does not mean that you’re required to accept the loan. If, and only if you like the rates and payment terms, you can electronically sign for acceptance of the consolidation loan via ScholarPoint’s secure system. If you’d prefer to physically sign the application, you can print, sign, and mail it directly to ScholarPoint for processing.

Common questions and concerns
Q. The application asks for my social security number, will you run a credit check to consolidate my federal loans?
A. No – there is no credit check required at any point during the process of consolidating federal student loans.

7 Little-Known Facts about Refinancing Student Loans
When graduates refinance student loans, it is so simple that many people tend to overlook some of the key factors that can make a major impact on overall cost. By ensuring that you've utilized every money-saving opportunity when it comes to college loan refinancing, you can realize huge savings over the course of the 10-20 years you spend repaying your loan. You might be surprised at how many ways there are to easily save money when you refinance student loans.

Your interest rate will be .60% less if you refinance student loans during the grace period
The single most important way to reduce the total amount you repay is to refinance student loans during the post-graduation grace period. Following graduation, every student has the right to a 6 month grace period before they must begin repaying their loans.

During this grace period, the rates to refinance student loans are a full .60% lower than they are once the loan enters into repayment status. When you refinance student loans during the grace period, you will lock in these lower rates for the entire repayment period.

Lender incentives can save big bucks when it's time to refinance student loans
Not all companies that provide college loan refinance products are created equally, and where they differ the most is in the interest rate reduction incentives offered. Aside from choosing to refinance student loans during the grace period, lender incentives can be the most effective way to shave a big chunk of money off of your monthly payment.

Look for those that offer interest rate reductions versus dollar amount reductions then compare the percentage of the reduction. Reductions for on-time payments and auto debit are the most common types of incentives. While many companies offer a .25% rate reduction for payments made by auto debit, ScholarPoint gives .5%. Many lenders also offer a 1% interest rate for making 36 months of consecutive on-time payments. ScholarPoint offers this 1% rate reduction a full year earlier.

Deferment and Forbearance starts over
Student loans allow a post-grad to put loans on hold for a specific amount of time over the course of the student loan repayment period. During this hold, called a deferment or forbearance, the borrower does not need to make payments on the loan although interest does accrue and is added to the balance of the loan.

The deferment and forbearance benefits aren't lost when you refinance student loans - in fact, the "clock" starts over again so that these hold periods are refreshed and can be used again in full.

You could pay more by incorporating fixed rate loans into your consolidation
The reason it's smart to get started with student loan refinancing now is that most student loans are written with a variable interest rate. This means that every year when the federal government decides on a new interest rate, the payment on your old student loan will change if you haven't refinanced.

However, not all student loans are written with variable interest rates. Some types of loans like the Federal Perkins Loan and the HPSL loan are fixed interest rates, meaning that the rates always remain the same. If the interest rate offered when you refinance student loans is higher than that of your fixed rate loans, then you could actually pay more by adding your fixed rate loans to the mix when you refinance student loans. ScholarPoint lending specialists can help you find the most cost effective solution in terms of which school loans to incorporate.

No reconsolidation after July 1st, 2006
For years, borrowers have enjoyed the flexibility of refinancing student loans multiple times in order to take advantage of better interest rates or to extend their repayment period. As of July 1st 2006, student loan borrowers no longer have this option except for in a few select circumstances. These new limitations are part of the "Deficit Reduction Act," a set of changes in place to begin repair of the nation's rising deficit.

Since July 1st, 2006 borrowers only have the option of college loan refinancing in cases where some of the loans were left out of the original consolidation or the borrower has new college loans to add in or if the current lender does not offer an income sensitive repayment plan. Because borrowers are more or less locked in with the first lender they choose, it's critical to find a lender with a solid reputation and high incentive savings options.

In order to refinance, loans cannot be in default
When refinancing a student loan, the payments must first be current and not in default. Loans that are current include those that are in their grace period, in deferment or in forbearance - as long as there are no payments due.

If you are a month or so behind on your student loans because of extenuating financial strain, try contacting your current lender about securing a hardship deferment before you refinance student loans. Oftentimes, if the payment is just a little overdue and your financial situation qualifies, the lender will backdate the forbearance thus bringing your loan current so that you can move forward in your effort to refinance student loans.

A consolidated education loan cannot combine private and federal loans
If you've got loans from a private lender as well as loans that were granted through a government student loan program, you'll need to secure two different loan consolidations.

Most lenders recommend consolidating federal student loans first, and then working on private loan consolidation afterward. Separate consolidations are only necessary for private and federal loans. Any type of federal loan can be combined such as subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans.

Austin DWI. There are too many Highest Paying Adsense Keyword lists available on various websites. Moreover, keyword pricing are dynamic and keep changing. How these lists are prepared and how much the adsense publisher actually gets is truly still unknown.

Cyberwire maintains a list of top 500 higest paying Internet search keywords. It was last updated on June 29, 2006. I am talking about this list since they find these keyword prices using the Google’s AdWords tool and so that should be somewhat reliable. The result is presented in Canadian Dollars.

How can you actually earn so much per click?

First of all, let me tell you that you will never see a profit of $70/click credited to your AdSense account. These figures are what Google charges their advertisers. You as a publisher will only see a small percentage of this — I have seen upwards of $2-3 / click though, which is very good if you multiply that by 10 or 20 clicks a day. Traffic is the key.

It is well known that legal and loan services usually top the most expensive keywords lists. Mesothelioma was amongst the most popular keywords once. I was surprised to see that the most expensive keyword is “Austin DWI” at $82.95/click. I had never heard of that keyword combination before.

I presume by Austin we are talking about the City of Austin, Texas, USA. I looked up DWI which means “driving while intoxicated”, which is an offense committed by an individual who operates a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I wonder if Austin has a higher incidence of DWI?

No wonder websites and blogs have started talking about Austin Texas DWI laywers and attorneys. A google search for Austin DWI results in 69000 results, but Technorati still shows only 1050 results so bloggers are yet to catch on the tip.

Remember that such lists are always dynamic and keyword prices are always changing…as I write this Austin DWI may no longer be the most expensive keyword phrase!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7052560937031977634-7900142913749207007?l=internetmoneystuff.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Money Making Opportunities To Make Money Fast

Exploring Money Making Opportunities To Make Money Fast

Developing your own product to market on the Internet isn't as difficult as you may think. Today's technology has opened a whole New World of opportunity for even the smallest homebased business owner. The knowledge you have within your own mind is all you'll need to develop a successful product.

Everybody is good at something. You don't have to be a Rocket Scientist in order to create your own product. If that were the case, most of us would fail. Maybe you have a special talent or some specialized knowledge. Use this knowledge to create a product.

Researching

Before you begin developing your product, make sure you've done your homework. Research the market to determine exactly what people want and develop your product accordingly. If your product doesn't have a market, it won't be successful.

Your product should not only fill a void, but should also be unique. The less competition you have, the better. If you enter a market in which you're competing against hundreds of other products similar to yours, your chance of success will be minimal. Develop a high-quality product that fills a void and provides people with exactly what they want.

Another consideration of great importance is your product's delivery method. The best form of product delivery on the Internet is automated. Internet users want the product they order as soon as their purchase is complete. This can be accomplished in a number of ways depending upon the type of product. For example, if your product is software or information, it can reside on your server and be instantly downloaded via a link. If your product is a private site, you can provide instant access as soon as your customer's payment has been processed.

Not only does instant product delivery benefit your customer, but it will also benefit you. By completely automating your product's ordering and delivery process, you can spend your time performing more important tasks, such as making more sales.

Brain Storming

The most difficult part of creating your own product is deciding upon the product itself. First of all, you'll need to decide what type of product you would like to develop.

Some of the top Internet sellers include:

• Software

• Information

• Private sites

• Internet services

Once you have determined the type, then you can focus your attention on the subject matter.

If you would like to develop a software program, but aren't capable of writing it yourself, consider hiring a professional. If you would be interested in developing a desktop software program, simply visit a Search Engine and search for "software developers." If you would like to develop a software that resides on a server, search for "scripting services." Although this type of product will be the most expensive to develop, it can be very profitable.

Information is a big seller on the Internet and is also the most inexpensive to develop. Your information can be in the form of a report, an ebook or even a private site.

Internet users are starving for information, as that is what the Internet is all about. They have a sincere desire to learn and will search for the information they desire. The best form of information is "how-to" information that teaches or informs in regard to a specific subject. Even if the subject is very unique, the Internet is a great market for even the most niche products.

If you'd like to develop a product that is very inexpensive to create and has a great profit margin, then an informational product is your best bet. Most informational products are compiled into a downloadable file better known as an ebook. In order to compile your files into an ebook, you'll need to purchase a compiler. Prices start at around $25. You can find a complete list of compilers here:

For further information on creating an informational product, you may read the article entitled, "How to Create, Sell and Distribute Your Own Informational Product." http://www.web-source.net/info_products.htm

This article is directed at beginners to affiliate programs marketing who wish to generate additional income of their web sites by joining these programs. It might help you to figure out which affiliate programs you shouldn't join!
What are affiliate programs?
Affiliate programs (also called reseller, associate programs) are programs where you (webmaster) advertise and/or promote a vendor(s) product/service or site on your site. This is usually done by placing on your site; banners, buttons, pop-up windows, text-links or/and promotion articles. You will get paid; per click or per 1000 impressions (in case of banners), per lead or per sale generated from your site.
There are also the so called "2-tier" affiliate programs which pay commissions on two levels. You will receive a commission for each sale you make and for each sale your recruits (affiliates who sign up with the program through your own affiliate links) make.
Affiliate programs aren't get-rich-quick models!
Though there are 100.000s of affiliates scattered all over the internet, very few are making decent money out of affiliate programs. There is a famous sentence known among savvy affiliates: Only 5% of affiliates are making the 95% of sales for affiliate vendors! You will find yourself too that this statement is true in most cases.
However Affiliate programs can definitely pay off, but you have to be running your operation like a business. It all depends on the volume of traffic that your site receive (without the traffic, your site isn't going to sell much), whether you provide a useful service to your site visitor, the type of your site visitors, the relevancy of affiliate programs to your visitors (targeting), and your own promotion/marketing efforts.
Don't try to join too many affiliate programs with the result that your site will look like a supermarket. Instead focus your efforts on few programs, that meet the needs of your site visitors, and make them work for you!
What to check out before joining an affiliate program?
Too many webmasters fall for the hyped claims and signup with several affiliate programs without any consideration.
You need to check out and examine few things before joining a program:
- The program must offer REAL products. Programs without legitimate products are known as "ponzi" or "pyramid schemes"..... be worry!
- Determine who is running the affiliate vendor site. I.e complete contact details.
- Study the terms of the affiliate agreement carefully. This is a MUST!
You may wish to save (or print out) a copy of the agreement. In this connection, I recommend studying the Affiliate Union Draft of Merchant Certification Criteria.
- Se whether Payment terms are acceptable. Make sure the program has a reasonable minimum pay-out ($25- $50) and pays at least once a month. And make sure that the affiliate program will send payments worldwide if you are outside USA (or outside the country of the affiliate program).
- Some affiliate merchants offer multiple payment options to buyers, for example credit card online merchant account, third party credit card processing, ClickBank, PayPal, payment by check, money order, etc...
You should make sure that you are paid commission on ALL sales generated by you regardless of payment acceptance methods used on the merchant site.
- If an affiliate merchant offers more than one product on his web site, be sure that you will be paid commission on ALL your referral sales of ALL products.
- Be sure that the affiliate program offers a reliable detailed statistics and stats are updated at least once a day.
- Read carefully the FAQ page of the program (if there is one).
- Find out whether the program offers Support to its affiliates and whether affiliates email (questions) are answered timely or at all.
- Ask yourself whether your site visitors are interested in the product/service that the program offers. Try to target the program you choose and don't just pick those programs that seem to pay most.
- There should be no fee to joine an affiliate program. Be worry if the program requires joining fee.
- You must perform some level of affiliate merchant due diligence to determine whether an affiliate merchant has a sound and viable business model.
- Find out whether the affiliate merchant has a web site that SELLS (to convert visitors to buyers). Would your visitors buy from such a web site?
Where should I place the affiliate banners, buttons and links?
Many beginners make a common mistake; they put several banners and buttons on the same page to the extent that their site looks like a "banner farm". People don't like Banner stuffed pages and I can assure you that this is a way to loose your visitors.
You shouldn't install more than two banners and few buttons on each page. Banners are best placed at top and bottom of a page while you may wish to place buttons within the page menu (left or right margin) or at top or bottom of the page.
Use also text links. Many people don't like banners but they do click on text links. These text links should go directly to the page of the product at the vendor's site (not to the vendor's home page!).
Test as many banners, buttons, text links as possible. The more you test the greater the chance that you'll find the ones that work best for your site.
Occasionally test your affiliate links, banners and buttons to see whether they are working and whether the affiliate merchant is still in business.
Avoid this one!
At last I wish to ask you to do yourself this big favour: Refrain from the use of unsolicited bulk email (UCE) for any marketing purpose of the affiliate programs you are on. Using UCE might bring you in trouble with your ISP (internet service provider) and a bunch of people you don't know.

One of the best of home based Internet businesses is selling other people's goods. The principle is not restricted to home businesses, moreover, and many companies become affiliates to supplement their revenues.

Amazon Books started the idea. Companies providing literary content, or selling travel products etc., placed a link from their site to a recommended book, a convenience to visitors that also earned commission for the site. The link recorded the site originating the sale, and software maintained by Amazon managed all aspects of the process thereafter.

The link was a simple piece of HTML code, readily cut and pasted to the page, and affiliates could view sales through a password-managed account.

Amazon still run their own system, but most companies have handed the process over to affiliate solution providers. The fee or percentage of sales taken by the third-part company covers:

maintaining lists of potential affiliates and companies looking for affiliates.

supplying links to the affiliate sites.

maintaining records of sales and commissions earned.

providing password-secured sites where sales records can be viewed.

publishing a simple-to-read report.

paying commission at agreed intervals.

Our resources page lists directories of the better-known affiliate solution providers.

Selling Email Addresses and Pay-by-Lead Deals
Free newsletters are a good way of building traffic, and selling the emails obtained is another popular form of Internet home business.

There are also pay-by-lead deals listed on our resources page.

Dealing Direct
You can sometimes cut out the middleman and deal direct with the companies concerned, though that's not recommended for the average home business. The link software itself is readily available (product details here) but you'll have to come to some arrangement with the company concerned over its purchase, coding and/or installation, particularly in the sections managing sales and commissions.

Becoming an Affiliate
How do you become an affiliate? Simple. You either look at the merchants represented by affiliate solution providers, or visit specialist affiliate sites presenting their recommendations. Alternatively, you can make your own list by searching for affiliate opportunities available from the companies of interest to you. You'll appraise the goods or services concerned, scrutinize the terms and conditions applying, and sign up. An online form will ask for details of yourself, your website and the account into which the commissions will be paid. Acceptance is often automatic — particularly if you have already been accepted by the affiliate solution provider — or you'll get an email from the merchant a day or so later when they've inspected your site.

Finding an Affiliate Solution Provider
We list directories on our resources page, but you need to:

shop around for the best deal, one where companies

supply quality goods/services
have popular products/services that really sell
offer lifetime commissions
happily provide names of other affiliates
assist their affiliates with good product information
don't insist on exclusive contracts
allow independent sales copy/evaluations

consult third-party sites and manuals for advice on selecting a competent and reputable provider: some 40% of companies are not apparently happy with their initial choice.

General Considerations: Performance
Creating a site with dozens of affiliate links is just the start. You'll need to work hard to:

make your site outstanding: i.e.

provide uniquely useful content.

promote effectively.

keep promoting through search engines, pay-per-click search engines, email marketing.

establish trust, confidence and authority.

actually sell the affiliate products.

It's easy to become an affiliate. There's no a sign-up fee, and many companies allow a free trial of their products. But you must remember that competition is fierce. The popular products are promoted by thousands (and sometimes tens of thousands) of affiliates. Our resources section points you to advice, courses and ebooks on Internet marketing, but the points constantly stressed are:

planning: find out what's really selling, and by what methods.

content: your site must provide free/unique/helpful content to be popular.

research: you must understand affiliate products to endorse them.

suitability: products must be appropriate to your visitor's needs and wants.

quality: you need top-notch products you can be proud of.

commissions should be sufficiently generous to repay your efforts in promoting the products.

do not engage in hard-sell, but create a willingness to purchase by engendering trust and confidence in your visitors.

replace banners supplied by informative text links — if allowed by the merchant.

consider adding a doorway page between your recommendation and the merchant's site, one where you can supply more information to the potential purchaser.

tacking on affiliate programs to an existing site doesn't usually work: you'll need to redesign the site around a tightly-focused group of affiliate opportunities.

Tourism on the Internet
Research and Planning
The Internet has rapidly increased its influence in the choices consumers are making regarding their holiday. The following chart shows changes in the influences on consumers in choosing their last holiday destination over the last four years.

The Internet appears to have overtaken many established resources utilised in the tourism industry and is now second only to recommendations by friends or family.

The Internet presents some great opportunities for tourism operators to promote their product, but before developing an online presence, there are some things you will need to consider:
• How will your target audience find you?
• Who will provide design advice and programming skills to develop and maintain a website?
• How will you manage the ongoing accuracy and relevancy of your website?
• How will you enhance your presence, including third party online travel providers?

In fact, doing business online is no different to traditional methods and hence the same level of focus and effort will be required.

There are three key potential uses for the Internet, presenting significant opportunities and challenges that will need to be addressed:
As a marketing tool The Internet offers the travel industry opportunities to market destinations, products and services but the challenge lies in reaching a specific target market when there are 1.2 billion worldwide users and more than 30 million websites.
As an information tool
The Internet is an excellent tool for travel research, planning and decision-making but it is vital to maintain compelling, up-to-date, accurate and relevant content on your website and any other sites that include your business information.

As a purchasing tool
If you choose to make transaction facilities available on your site you gain an advantage by providing an additional distribution channel for consumers to book or purchase travel product. You must then also develop competitive product, pricing, promotional and distribution strategies to meet market needs and service consumers in a timely and professional capacity.

Getting started on the Internet
A simple way to start using the Internet is to provide an email address for enquiries regarding your product. As with telephone or mail enquiries, you must respond to these enquiries in a timely fashion. Check your emails at least daily and ensure you respond within 24 hours to all enquiries.
A more involved way to use the Internet is to showcase your product through a website. You can do this in two ways:
• Develop your own website, and/or
• Include your information on other tourism websites.
Firstly you will need to decide whether you need a website or if including your information on an existing tourism website may be more appropriate. Do a cost benefit analysis and don’t forget to include the cost of keeping your website up-to-date.

Developing your own website
Work with an experienced and/or professional website developer
• Ensure they deliver an easy to navigate website that is best value for your needs and budget.
• Balance text and images. Online consumers are reluctant to read large amounts of text but while images can be very effective, too many images will slow down the time it takes for the consumer to see the page on the screen.
• Ensure your site is accessible to all types of users – some people have slow computers, slow Internet access, and small monitors or could be visually impaired.
• Similarly, minimise fancy ‘plug-ins’ such as movie players and Flash graphics.
• Highlight your contact details and maintain pricing … and make sure you reply to any enquiries within 24 hours!
Promote your website
• A majority of website traffic is delivered via search engines. Ensure your site has been built by a reputable developer who can also ensure it is search-engine friendly.
Ask your developer about search engine optimisation.
• Ensure all collateral refers to your website address (URL).
• Consider expanding the reach of your product online through community, government, and commercial website partners.

• Consider advertising and other promotional methods, both offline and online.
Maintain your website
• Ensure that technically your site is ‘available’ to Internet users all or close to all of the time.
• Ensure your content is accurate, current, relevant and compelling – this is probably a traveller’s first (and hopefully not last) experience of you, your professionalism and your product.
• Ensure all links work.
Consider developing a mailing list
• Explore the ability to capture visitor contact details, both from your website and from customers, and develop a strategy and plan for ongoing communication.
• Ensure you adhere to privacy and anti-SPAM guidelines.
• Always listen to your customers. Ask them to provide feedback and seek their advice on how often it is appropriate to communicate to them with marketing related messages.
On-line bookings and payments
• Develop arrangements to ensure bookings and payments made on-line are secure.
• Decide which payment options you will accept and make this clear on the website booking form.
You may also consider including your information on other websites such as Local Tourism Association, Regional Tourism Organization or Tourism New South Wales sites.
You may also consider marketing through advertising on non-travel-specific websites and similarly you may consider commercial travel sites.
Whichever you consider, ensure you ask:
• Do they invest in promoting their website to maximize the opportunity presented to you?
• Do they target and attract Internet users who are actively planning a holiday?
• Will your business be highlighted on the site or will it be buried amongst a range of other businesses and promotional opportunities?
• What responsibilities do you have for maintaining the accuracy and currency of this information?
• How much will it cost you to participate and will you receive a return on this investment?

If you plan on selling a product online, one of the main things you'll want to focus on is learning how to create a search engine friendly website so people can find your site.
After all.... No traffic means no sales and definitely no profits.

Don't ever try to sell a product online until you are sure your web host provides website creation and marketing support.

People get so concerned with how their website design will look and how they are going to collect payments, setup their online shopping cart, etc. These days that's the easy part.

What's more important is that you choose a web host that helps with online marketing so you don't end up with a store that receives zero visits.

Selling products with a website is not just about creating your online store and letting your website sit out in cyberspace expecting people to stumble upon your site and buy something.

It is absolutely crucial that you understand how to get your website ranked high in MSN, Google and Yahoo. This will be vital to your success and people often underestimate the importance of this.

Most web hosts don't even help you with marketing. It's not in their business model to help you promote your site and help sell products. They are simply there to host it on their servers.

So what happens is people often pay their hard-earned money to build this outstanding online store with a fancy design, and there isn't a visitor to be found. What they don't realize is that they've failed before they even began because they've chosen the wrong host.

You won't fail if you follow my advice below. I am confident of this because I use this web host and recommend to everyone I know who wants to sell something on the Internet.

Use Site Build It - No Other Host Compares
Site Build It is a web host committed to not only helping you build your website, but it shows you how to optimize it for the major search engines as well as build other traffic streams so you sell products.

Go to SBI's website and see how they differ the average web host. You'll quickly discover why 99% of the people that try to sell products do it wrong. If you choose SBI, you'll get it right the first time.

Accepting Credit Cards From Your Store

Accepting credit cards is a must for online commerce. I recommend you use Paypal as your merchant. It's pretty easy to setup.

With Paypal, you don't have to rent or purchase any equipment because they take the orders for you and then send your revenue directly to your bank account. They take a small percentage of every order you receive.

This is MUCH more convenient than having to apply for a business license, rent out the equipment and handle all the orders yourself. PayPal makes it quick and easy.

Creating and Selling an Information Product
An information product (or infoproduct) is just what the name suggests. It's a product full of information.

These days, many info products come in the form of eBooks -- which stands for "electronic books". This means your customer can download your book right from your web site and read it from their PC.

eBooks are convenient because you don't have to worry about shipping and handling. Once you create it and upload it to your site, it's ready for instant download by your customers.

With this method, you don't have to worry about shipping and handling costs, and your customers are happy because they can download their product as soon as the sale is made.

An infoproduct can also come in the form of plain old information. You don't necessarily have to sell an ebook. If you have the knowledge on a certain subject that you'd like to share, you can still make money with pure content and affiliate programs.

<strong>How To Create Your Own Products To Sell On The Internet </strong>

Owning your own product is the best method to make money on the internet. Before you can own a product you need to create one. Creating a product can seem like a daunting task at first. Many people can't seem to get started and never make the attempt.

Creating your own product is not that hard. Here are a few tips on how to go about doing it.

* What should the product be?

You need to first identify a topic for your product. You need to identify an area that you feel has potential and would do well to create a product for. Read the news papers or simply check the internet and see what the latest trends are. You'll find that there are many fields that are hot right now, such as the lose weight, credit card debt and real estate areas. Pick one area that you feel is hot. If you can't decide, visit ClickBank.com and check out the top selling categories. This is a clear indicator of what's hot in the market right now.

* Should you create the product yourself?

Sometimes it's easy to create the product yourself if you've got enough information and experience. If not the best thing is to out source it or have someone else do it for you. You can get a freelancer to create your product for you and you can add the finishing touches. Ask yourself if you consider yourself an expert in the field of your product and if you think - yes - then go ahead and create it yourself. If not you can always pay to have it done for you at places like elance.com or guru.com

* Test your products

Once you have a product you should test it before you go all out and sell it. You should release a sample or a few copies of it to a select few people and have them test it for you. Get their feedback and comments. And once you do, refine and improve the product. Ask if you can use their testimonials. This will help you sell your products much more easily. Once you have had your product tested you're ready to launch it to the public.

* Create a buz

While you are testing your product, you can create a "buzz" by letting people subscribe to a "pre launch" list. Once the product is complete, you can notify this list of eager prospects and make a quick profit. Don't wait until your product is completely ready to market or promote it. Create a pre-launch site and create a "buzz" and get people to line up to buy your product.

* Launch your product

Launch your product once your testing is done and you're happy with it. Make sure that your payment processor is setup and your hosting account can handle the spike in traffic and load. Make sure you pick a good date and time. Don't launch it at 6 am on April fools day.

* Phase in your affiliate program

Once you launch and make a few sales you'll get a feel for how good your product is. Once you are confident that it's a good product and once the public is confident with you, create your own affiliate program and let the public sell it for you. This is s sure fire way to make money on the internet.

Creating your own product is one of THE most lucrative methods to making money online. Hopefully the tips I've given you will help you create your own and grab a piece of that big juicy online profit pie.

In this lesson, students match stock selections to stock purchasing strategies; they gain experience in finding the company that produces a particular product and in identifying the parent company of a particular business.

ECONOMICS BACKGROUND
Like everybody else, people who buy stocks face scarcity. Their money is limited, so they must choose among stocks. In choosing, they try to weigh potential costs and benefits, hoping to maximize the benefits. They rely heavily on various types of information about the stocks they consider, and they pay a cost (in money or effort) to obtain this information. Information about economic expansions and contractions is especially valuable.

LANGUAGE OF ECONOMICS

Capital: Human-made resources used to produce goods and services. Capital goods are used by people to produce and distribute goods and services.

Cyclical Stocks: Stocks, such as high-priced consumer goods and capital goods, which are significantly affected by business cycle fluctuations.
These stocks generally decline more during recessions and show more growth during expansions, than other stocks.

Defensive Stocks: Stocks, such as medicine, food, clothing, and public utilities, that are relatively unaffected by business cycle fluctuations, generally decline less during recessions, and show less growth during expansions than other stock.

Dividends: The amount of profit a company pays to its stockholders.
Early Phase of Development: The condition of a company that puts a product or service on the market for the first time; its sales are expected to grow rapidly. of costs and benefits, choosing the best combination of costs and benefits from among the alternatives.

Growth Stock: A stock whose earnings andprice are expected to show big increases in the future.
Income Stock: A stock that has paid sizable dividends in the past and is likely to do so in the future.
Industry: A group of companies that produce or sell the same kind of product or service.
Late Phase of Development: The condition of a company whose product or service has been on the market for awhile, and its sales are no longer expected to grow rapidly.
Long-term Investing: Buying stock and keeping it for many years in an effort to have one’s money grow in step with stock prices in general.
Parent Company: A business that owns and controls another company.
Recession: A decline in Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for a period of at least six months. During a recession, businesses produce fewer goods and services.
Risk: The chance of losing money. Risk is the opposite of safety.
Short-Term Investing: The buying of stocks in order to sell them quickly in an effort to have one’s money grow faster than the general level of stock prices.
Stock Table: An alphabetical listing of the transactions on the stock exchanges.
CROSS CURRICULUM SKILLS: Students develop skills in writing, speaking, reading, and group participation.

OBJECTIVES
1. Students describe strategies for stock selection as they identify factors that might result in greater benefit than cost.
2. Students analyze stock choices and identify the appropriate stock selection strategies.

3. Students identify the company that produces a particular product and the parent company of a particular business.
4. Students identify characteristics of economic cycles and predict the influence of cycles on consumer choices and stock performance.

MATERIALS
u Visuals 1 and 2
u Activities 1, 2, 3*, 4*, and 5*
u Newspaper stock tables

TIME REQUIRED
Two class periods
PROCEDURE
A. Now that the students have decided to invest in the stock market, they need a few tips on selecting stocks wisely. Remind the class that there are costs and benefits involved in any decision, including decisions about stock selection. This lesson will help them select a stock and find the name under which it is traded. To select, they need a strategy. Explain that a strategy is a way of methodically pursuing a goal. A strategy is a way of reducing risk.

B. Ask the students to imagine for a moment that buying a stock involved no risk. Ask: What are the characteristics of a perfect stock? Encourage some speculation. Display Visual 1, Wombat, Inc. would this company be a good choice? Discuss each characteristic, encouraging students to explain why these factors tend to make this a perfect choice.
(There must be a market for the product; if people are buying the product, especially if they buy lots of it, the company will do well, the stock will be valued, and the price will rise. The company will probably have higher profits since the cost of distribution and production, the major determinant of supply, is low. The expected long life of the company and excellent earnings will support the value and price of the stock.)

C. Explain that Wombat, Inc. is not a real company, and no company has all these characteristics, but the example helps us to think about what we might look for when choosing stocks.

D. Tell students that they are now going to examine strategies that others have suggested for reducing the risk involved in buying stocks.
Distribute Activity 1, Strategies for Stock Selection. Read and discuss each section. Tell students that there are many other strategies, but these examples should get them started.

Answers to Activity 1
1. What is Peter Lynch’s advice for pickingstocks?
(Buy what you know. Stock tips are all around us. You can spot a good stock before Wall Street does.)
2. Give an example of a stock that you think has a growing market.
(Answers will vary.)
3. What is an example of a good stock to buy in a recession?
(A stock in a defensive industry such as medicine, food, clothing, public utilities.)
Example of a good stock to buy in an expansion?
(A stock in cyclical industries such as cars and appliances, or raw materials like aluminum, steel, tools, and equipment.)
4. Why should you beware of front-page stories?
(If the stock is news, then everyone else knows about it.)
5. Explain how changes in technology affect stock prices.
(Changes in technology could make the product obsolete, thus depressing the stock’s price, or changes could increase demand for the product, thus increasing the stock’s price.)

E. Ask students to use the Peter Lynch strategy of “buy what you know.” Ask the students to name a product or service that they think is as good as or better than other products or services on the market. When they have come up with several examples, settle on one or two to examine further. Display Visual 1 again and ask students how this product or service compares to the fictional Wombat, Inc. Then display Visual 2, Strategies for Stock Selection—Summary, a summary of the reading. Ask students to take the product or service they selected through each of the considerations in stock selection. For example, what are the current markets for this product?
Who will buy it? Can it be sold overseas? How would it fare in good times or lean times?
Discuss each question, then decide whether the company warrants further research.

F. Continue to display Visual 2. Distribute Activity 2, Matching Strategies to Stock Selections. Divide the class into groups. Ask students to read and discuss each statement. For each statement they are to identify and describe the strategy they would use. Would they buy the stock(s) or not? Explain. Ask each group to report. Do students agree?

Discuss their answers.
Answers to Activity 2
1. Widget Manufacturing Company
Strategy: Avoid obvious risk—specific stock situation
Reasoning: Although the technology factor is important, the risk of losing the lawsuit is probably more important.
2. WonderWalkers
Strategy: Peter Lynch—Buy what you know; markets
Reasoning: Recognize a good product before everyone else; early phase of development means markets could expand and sales could grow rapidly.
3. GM
Strategy: Economic Cycle—Good times and
Cyclical stocks
Reasoning: During periods of expansion, automobile stocks, which are cyclical, are more likely to show greater growth than defensive stocks. People are more confident about the present and future so they are more willing to make a large expenditure.

4. Kellogg’s, Wisconsin Valley Electric
Company, GM Strategy: Economic Cycle—Not so good times and Defensive stocks. Reasoning: During periods of recession, Kellogg’s and Wisconsin Valley Electric Company, both defensive stocks, generally decline less than other stocks. However, GM, a cyclical stock, would be likely to decline more than stocks in other industries.

G. Summarize Activity 2. Explain that when you select a stock you are making a reasoned judgment, using information you deem important to maximize the benefit and minimize the cost. Since you have limited funds to invest in The Stock Market Game, you must choose and give up your next best alternative. This is the opportunity cost.
H. In the next Activity, students will search for stocks using newspaper stock tables, a brandname index, and a parent-company index.
Tell students that they will search for the names of companies that make many of their favorite products. This search is necessary because if you can’t find the listing in the stock market table, you can’t buy the stock.

I. Distribute copies of Activity 3, A seemingly
Simple Search for Selected Stocks, Activity 4, Brand Name and Parent Company Index, and Activity 5, Stock Search Activity Sheet. Ask the students to read Activity 3 aloud. As a group, read and discuss directions 1, 2, and 3, perhaps doing a few of the tasks as examples.
J. Students might be unable to find particular stocks in the newspaper. For example, RJR Nabisco was purchased by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., so the stock of RJR Nabisco is not publicly traded. Consequently, students will not find RJR Nabisco in the stock tables if they begin with a popular product, such as Oreo cookies or Ritz crackers, which is made by Nabisco Brands, which is now part of KKR. The stocks of Pillsbury Company are no longer traded because the business was purchased by the British company, Grand.

Metropolitan. Other companies may not be publicly traded, so their stocks, too, will not be listed. And some, like Nintendo, are foreign companies whose stocks are not traded in U.S. stock markets. Finally, the list of companies in Activities 4 and 5 might require periodic updating, for particular companies might be purchased by other businesses in the same way RJR Nabisco was purchased by KKR.

CLOSURE
Ask students to look in their kitchen cabinets at home. Boxes of cereal or cans of vegetables will give the company name and sometimes the parent company. For example, Nabisco Shredded Wheat is now one of the Post cereals, which is owned by Kraft, which is owned by General Foods, which is owned by Philip Morris. Often companies furnish 800 numbers on their products, so students can call to ask about parent companies. Ask students to add to the Brand Name and Parent Company index when new connections are discovered.

ASSESSMENT
Multiple Choice Questions
1. A business that owns or controls another company is a(n) _______ company.
a. brand name
b. parent
c. subsidiary
d. industry
2. Individuals selecting stock would need to consider
a. economic cycle.
b. markets available.
c. technological changes.
d. current industry conditions.
e. all of these.

ESSAY
- Your friend asks you for your opinion on buying American Manufacturing Limited stock. What information would you need to know before you could give a reasoned answer? Explain. (You need to know what the company does and whether it makes good products/services. How is the company doing?
How is the industry doing?
What are its current and future markets? What is the financial position of the company? What is the company debt [assets to liabilities ratio], earnings growth over the past five years, high and low prices for the year [stock tables], and dividend payments? Is it in the early or late phase of development?
Are new developments in progress? What other businesses does the company own? Is there diversity in the products they make? This information would help you determine the financial condition of the company, its markets, and potential growth.)

- What choices about daily expenditures and stock purchases do you think your parents, neighbors, employers, and so on, would make depending on the economic cycle? For example, if the economy went into recession, would they continue to buy bread and milk? How about a new car?
To learn more about this, prepare a set of questions and interview several adults. Be sure you clearly differentiate between economic expansion and economic recession. Record people’s answers and the reasons they give.
Then write a report explaining the impact of the economic cycle on consumer and stock purchase decisions. Use your data for examples.

JOURNAL
- Choose an industry. Collect information about the industry from the newspaper financial pages, magazines such as Business Week, and television programs such as Wall Street Week and Nightly Business Report. Record the date and source for each item of information. Write a report describing the industry, its products, companies in the industry (successful and other), changes taking place—technological and political, domestic and global—and the probable future of this industry.

STRATEGIES FOR STOCK SELECTION—SUMMARY
1. Peter Lynch: Go with what you know (after some research)
“During a lifetime of buying cars or cameras, you develop a sense of what’s good, what’s bad, what sells, and what doesn’t... and... you know it before Wall Street knows it.”

2. Markets: Current and Future
A project must have customers today and even more tomorrow or it isn’t growing. Phase of Development—Early or Late?
Global Markets—Can the product/service be sold overseas?
Demographics—Will a large percentage of the population want this product?

3. Economic Cycle: Is the economy expanding or slowing?
The performance of many stocks will be affected by economic cycles.
Good times: Most people who want to work are employed. People and businesses are spending money. Not so good times: More people than usual are out of work or worried about being out of work. People and businesses are not buying as much. Defensive industries: Even in difficult times, people use toothpaste, eat food, and use electricity.
Cyclical stocks: High-priced consumer goods like cars, appliances, new houses Raw materials like aluminum, steel, and cement

4. Avoid Obvious Risks
Front page companies and this year’s winners
Current industry condition
Changes in technology
Specific stock situation

5. Selecting Stock for The Stock Market Game
Very Short Term

Third Edition of the Investing Classic Completely Updated and Revised for Today's Turbulent Markets

When it was first published in 1988, How to Make Money in Stocks, the international best seller by Investor's Business Daily founder William J. O'Neil, provided the first in depth explanation of his innovative CAN SLIM™ investing method. Now, with the stock market producing continuing uncertainty and damaging investor confidence, comes How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times or Bad (McGraw-Hill Trade; June; Paperback: $12.95), a completely updated and enhanced edition with proven strategies that get investors into--and out of--the market at the right time.

O'Neil's CAN SLIM™ investment modeling system of buy and sell rules is based on an extensive analysis of the greatest stock market winners each year for the last half-century and presents a straight-forward process for minimizing risk, maximizing return and finding stocks that are poised to perform. The book details this method, which is based on proven, time-tested indicators such as quarterly earnings, market capitalization, and daily indexes. CAN SLIM™ is the acronym for the seven common characteristics of winning stocks:

Current quarterly earnings per share
Annual earnings increases
New products
Supply and demand
Leader or laggard
Institutional sponsorship
Market direction

In an independent survey published annually, the American Association of Individual Investors
(AAII) compared the CAN SLIM™ system to other well-known methods for selecting stocks--such as that of Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch and many others--for the bull market years of 1998 and 1999 as well as the bear market of 2000. AAII found that Mr. O'Neil's CAN SLIM™ method had the best and most consistent performance each year. Here are the results: 1998: +28.2% returns, 1999; +36.6%; 2000: +30.2%. The book discusses how O'Neil based his system on studies of the common characteristics (fundamental and market action variables) of the greatest stock market winners before they made major price moves, which gives investors insights into stocks with potential for the best appreciation. It also shows the common performance characteristics of stocks topping out and moving downward, which gives investors rules when to sell and take profits. The continual confirmation of how stocks become winners - and those elements that need to be in place - have proven to work, cycle after cycle.

The following are some of the key variables taken into account:
__ The quarterly earnings of these companies prior to their major price moves
__ What the annual earnings histories had been for the prior three years
__ What amount of trading volume was present
__ What degree of relative price strength occurred in the price of the stock before its enormous success
__ How many shares of common stocks were outstanding in the capitalization of each company,

This new edition of How to Make Money in Stocks, an official CAN SLIM™ investment research tool, encapsulates O'Neil's more than 40 years of experience, study, and analysis of the market and provides guidance to questions like:
__ How do I know which stocks to buy?
__ And if I hit a good buy, should I buy more? And when?
__ Should I buy a lot of a low-priced stock, or a little of a high priced stock?
__ How do I know when to sell? When should I take profits?
__ What areas of investing will help me most now that the markets appear to be trickier than ever?

Stocks, gold, mutual funds?
__ Is it really wise to invest in stocks after watching them fall so low, especially the tech stocks?
In the book, O'Neil also addresses some of the key misconceptions and mistakes investors make,
such as: __ Believing the ‘buy low, sell high’ mantra - and it's a trap O’Neil proves...He writes how historical studies prove stocks making new highs tend to go higher, while stocks making new lows tend to go lower. People are afraid to buy a stock making a new high. O'Neil makes it clear that if other variables are in place, this can be the launching pad for a great stock.
__ Buying stocks on their way down in price...everyone wants a bargain. O'Neil illustrates why this is another bad trap for investors.
__ Buying on tips, rumors, stories or advisory services... The last few years have also proved that 'experts' appearing on TV didn't help investors, and in some cases, hurt them with opinions, advice such as buying tech stocks on the way down.

As the 30 or so traders pecked away tensely on their laptop computers, sighs and nervous giggles signaled the gyrating value of their portfolios.

Except for its unusually informal setting, this recent exercise looked like the kind of simulated trading of stocks or bonds that is routine in the finance curriculum at many business schools. But this was a marketing class conducted by Ely Dahan, a professor at M.I.T.'s Sloan School of Business.

The students were not trading securities but the traits of various goods and services, like automobiles and ski resorts. The exercise was part of an effort by Professor Dahan and colleagues at M.I.T. to prove that simulated trading could answer that most basic of all product development questions: What do consumers want?

One session here traded “stocks” representing the Pontiac Aztek, Acura MDX and other rivals in the new market segment that melds sport utility vehicles, minivans and cars. The students also traded the characteristics of ski resorts — whether skiers could drive to the resort or had to fly to it, for example, and whether it had crowded slopes. Other sessions focused on designs for laptop-computer carrying cases and variations on hand-held digital assistants.

In as little as 20 minutes, the students arrived at fairly stable rankings of the relative worth of what they were trading. More intriguingly, as was driven home by interviews with skiers nearby at Mount Killington, the relative values arrived at through the trading closely paralleled consumer preferences divined much more laboriously through traditional field research. “It's amazing that you can get effective results in areas where people don't know that much,” said Jay Livens, an M.I.T. student, after Professor Dahan showed the outcomes of their vehicle trading.

The closing prices were generally consistent both with consumer sentiments culled from more traditional market research and with previous trading experiments conducted at M.I.T. In just minutes, for example, the trading showed disappointment with the Aztek and enthusiasm for the MDX in proportions similar to those of car buyers over the last year. “General Motors (news/quote) might have been able to save itself a lot of pain if it had run trading like this a couple of years ago,” Professor Dahan said.

To participants, market research had never seemed so much fun — or cool.
“I feel like we are at the genesis of a potentially great idea,” said Kristina Larson, a first-year student. In real markets, the value that buyers place on goods — reflected in prices — is established as a byproduct of the exchange of goods. In Professor Dahan's markets, buyers' opinions are the whole point of the exercise. If the operations of regular markets are like fishing for food, then Professor Dahan is fishing to collect data from the fish about pollution levels in the ocean.

Professor Dahan's research was inspired by the earlier successes of several Internet- based trading exchanges that have been called “decision markets” by Robin Hanson, an economics professor at George Mason University. The most renowned one, the Iowa Electronic Markets, has often outperformed pollsters in predicting election results. The market, operated by the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa, permits investors to buy and sell shares in a candidate, based either on how much of the vote they expect the candidate to receive or simply on whether the candidate will win or lose.

Under a special clearance from the Securities and Exchange Commission, the market accepts investments of up to $500, giving participants an incentive to invest seriously without running afoul of laws that ban gambling. Another virtual market, the Hollywood Stock Exchange (www.hsx.com), has become one of the movie industry's most trusted predictors of how new films will perform at the box office. The exchange has more than 850,000 registered members. After completing the free registration form, traders get two million “Hollywood dollars.” They base their “investments” on how they expect a film to perform in its first four weeks at the box office, months before the film even opens. Each Hollywood dollar equals $1 million of film revenue. If a film is trading based on expectations that it will gross $80 million in its first four weeks, investors who think it will reach $100 million buy shares. Those who anticipate weaker results sell.

The Hollywood Stock Exchange, owned by a British subsidiary of Cantor
Fitzgerald, the Wall Street firm, sells data about the trading to entertainment companies. Several companies have experimented internally with similar trading programs. The most successful reported experiment, Professor Hanson said, was at Hewlett- Packard (news/quote). Predictions of Unix workstation sales, derived from trading shares in different projections by Hewlett- Packard sales managers, repeatedly proved more accurate than official estimates by the unit's marketing group. The trading apparently filtered out the tendency of sales executives to be optimistic in their projections to superiors. Professor Dahan is trying to forecast the appeal of competing packages of product features, some of which may never exist other than as ideas. Such trading cannot be measured against a real outcome, as in an election. But the trading of product attributes may help a business pick the most popular combinations of features early in the design process.

Trading contests may also help a company find consumers who are especially knowledgeable about its business — or one in which the company wants to expand. Such consumers, called lead users, are prized in the product development world. Professor Dahan's main goal is to permit product developers to do research that is fast, easily modified and ultimately much more thorough. The technique now viewed as the best, a polling practice called conjoint analysis, was developed in the late 1960's. Marriott used it to design its Courtyard by Marriott chain (the slogan: designed by business travelers for business travelers). But conjoint analysis for more than a few attributes is unwieldy because the possible combinations quickly mushroom to unmanageable numbers. That is a big shortcoming in a world where many products have more than 100 distinguishable features that might influence consumers, Professor Dahan said.

In theory, trading can establish simultaneous values for scores or even hundreds of product attributes — just as it does each day for thousands of publicly listed stocks. That assumes that large groups of people are willing to trade for fun or for modest rewards. Professor Dahan, 44, had his attention drawn to stock trading by two M.I.T. colleagues, Tomaso Poggio, a neuroscientist, and Andrew Lo, a finance expert. They suggested that he apply related research in which they had been involved to M.I.T.'s Virtual Customer Initiative, which seeks ways to use the Internet and other tools to speed product development. Despite the intriguing results, Professor Dahan remains a cautious champion. “I think businesses will be trading these stocks like crazy in the future, but this is just a complement to other techniques,”
Professor Dahan added. “It would be heresy among marketing academics to say we no longer need to measure individual preferences. Trading doesn't reflect them.” PROFESSOR DAHAN said research suggested that in 38 percent of the trades, sellers like the specific products or features more than the buyer. Presumably, the sellers unload the stock because they think the price will fall.

How often game traders will behave as normal financial investors, however, is one of many areas about which little is known. Other questions involve what rewards are needed to keep enough traders playing and how to determine winners. Professor Hanson says he thinks the biggest hurdles to the spread of research- driven trading in business may be cultural.
Companies continuously make investments based on assumptions about the future that are, in essence, bets. But stock trading is so obviously speculative that many of them may be reluctant to be seen using a form of it as a data source for important decisions.

This may seem like a rather rudimentary statement but please, let's discuss this further to ensure that all is understood in the proper context.Let's start at the beginning...When one finds themselves drawn to another who seems to be successful in some manner, in this case, successful online, what exactly is it that is so appealing about that person? Is it because they are at the point of success that the aspiring person wishes to be at?Is it because that online guru is making the kind of money and has achieved the level of success that is desired by that person, that follower, or seeker? Is it because the person who achieved that guru status amongst the Internet community somehow discovered the magic online bullet that propelled her or him to success? And if only one could also find that magic bullet that they too would be at the same peak of success?Let's understand exactly what is going on here. What has that person really done with their success, and how DID they get to be so successful in life online?Did they really discover a new way to do Internet marketing that no one else has done before and now they're sharing it during that one-hour teleconference call?Have they really found that true online Internet 'secret' that no one else was able to tap into, at least until they came along?Did they somehow come across a magic combination of factors that no one else had discovered before and unless one does exactly the same things in the same fashion, level, and manner they will not achieve a similar level of success? To all of these somewhat rhetorical questions this author adamantly espouses, no, no, and, finally, no. In my opinion, these people did not become gurus because they discovered any of the above 'secrets' to success online. Now how can I go about making such a bold statement when I am nowhere near-considered to be an online Internet guru? Well, let me answer that by going into a unique insight I had a couple of days ago when listening to a world-renowned health expert. This person is literally known around the globe for his knowledge of health issues. And he offers well-rounded advice for others to follow to maintain or improve their health. The watershed moment that occurred for me while listening to this man was when I realized that this person really didn't do anything special so as to become considered a world-renowned 'expert'. Pretty much anything that he did, with the exception of going to an elite Ivy-League school, most people also could do.Let me explain...This man did not make a new scientific discovery in the health arena that he was able to get published in all the latest scientific and medical journals for the world to view.He didn't create anything 'new' -- for example, like Einstein did with his never-before-seen E=MC2 equation. This man didn't discover some secret to health that no one before him had done.He did not make any new discovery in the field of health and healthy lifestyle living. He did not do anything of that sort. But, he was no slouch either. Why? Because of what he DID do.He did ensure that he was schooled in the latest knowledge being released in the field of health.Over the years, he made sure that he continued to stay abreast of new information in the field of health. He made sure that he personally retained this new information and was able to be relied upon as a reliable SOURCE of information on health related topics.Essentially, he became his own little encyclopedia of health subjects. Anytime someone asks him if this or that is a good or bad health choice he was able to pull from his personal mental file drawers information to help that person to make an informed decision based on the information he shares with them and had learned or personally experienced.Do they follow him because of new discoveries he make? No. They follow his 'advice' because of the reliability and up-to-date-ness of his information shared with them. They can trust what he says and know that he is a person who is reputable and trustworthy. So, does that mean that he is successful in his field because of what he discovered or because of what he knew through experience? Obviously, his success is because of what he knew through experience only. And does that mean that people listen to him because he developed some untapped secret answer to health issues or because he offered trustworthy information for others to follow? Obviously, because he was trustworthy. So, getting back to our online Internet gurus...Why is it that we follow them and hang on every word they espouse? Is it REALLY because they discovered a magical secret to doing business online or is it because they have information about what one needs to do to make themselves successful online? Because they have the information, of course. And are these Internet gurus followed around the Internet bandwagon path because of the magic bullet to online success that they own and if only one of their followers can squeeze them to reveal, or is it because they are a trusted source of information and knowledge? Of course, because they are trustworthy.Think about it, the gurus that we are all following online (and elsewhere in our lives) are our gurus because we want to learn the 'secrets' they know. You know, the 'secrets to their success' kind of secrets. But if you really detail what it is they share about being successful online and what one needs to do today to get to that magical guru status, one can actually see that by personally getting the information and knowledge and trustworthiness that these gurus have is really all that one needs to do to eventually get that success as well. But just how does this happen to average Joes and Janes like you and me? By us doing what one has to do to get that information, knowledge, and trustworthiness through personal experience and encounters. Not by learning it in a ebook, or buying the newest razzle-dazzle Search Engine automation software, or listening to a one hour teleconference on the latest Internet trick or method. But by actually internalizing what it takes to GET TO guru status online.Plain and simple, do what that health guru did. That is, learn what you need to learn in your desired field of expertise, become a good resource of information over time, be trustworthy with what you know, and take the time to obtain the experience to give you the knowledge.Do ALL the above and you too can become the next online Internet guru. It really isn't that hard, of course, if that is indeed what you really desire.Written by Andre BestbPresident, Ultimate Results, Ibnc.http://www.andrebest.com'Learn About Life From Another Perspective'(Author's permission is granted to share this full article with others.
